CALL FOR ENTRY MATTER OF STUFF STUDENTS RESIDENCY 2017
Matter of Stuff is pleased to present a competition open to any Design student and recent graduate for a one week workshop in Montalcino, Italy to work on the subject of Marble.
The workshop will focus on marble waste use to create an object of tableware commissioned by Matter of Stuff.
The calendar is as follow:
Monday 19th of May, 2017 - Deadline for candidates proposal
Wednesday 28th of May, 2017 - Winners announcement
Submissions are accepted via email only and must be submitted in one zip file, including portfolio of previuos works and a single A4 page with a proposal on what you would like to develop during the workshop. We are not expecting a final product, but a glimpse or an idea of what could be developed during the week.
Completed applications should be sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org by 5pm (GMT) on Monday 19th of May.
The competition will select a maximum of 20 partecipants. Winners will be announced on Wednesday 28th of May 2017 and they will get the chance to spend one week in Italy, from 17th to 22nd of July 2017. The workshop will take place between Carrara and Montalcino.
During the workshop students will visit Carrara Marble Quarries, understand all the machinery involved in marble production, learn how to work with a manufacturing company, have lectures by professionals explaining their experiences in working with marble and design a product with experts guidelines.
In addition to all this a jury composed of MOS, SPDA will evaluate the best 2 projects that will be produced and promoted by the London gallery MOS.
The 2 winning designers will have a profile on the MOS website.
Their final pieces will become part of the MOS collection, will be featured for sale on the MOS website and exhibited during London Design Festival 2017.
The workshop package, priced at £780 incl. of VAT per person, will include:
Visit the Carrara Marble Quarries and manufacturing facilities
Lectures from outstanding designers and professionals
Wine tasting experience and visit to Wine production facilities in Montalcino offered by Banfi
Food and Accommodation:
Accommodation in shared bedroom
Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Access to teaching rooms and media room for presentations
Transfer from Pisa airport to Carrara, from Carrara to Montalcino, and from Montalcino to the Banfi wineries
There will be a requirement of 10 participants minimum for the workshop to take place.
The week will follow the schedule below. Please note that hours and activities might shift slightly according to the group’s best need.
Monday 17th July 2017- Carrara - Introduction to Marble
We will all meet at Pisa airports around 12 o’clock.
Visit to the Carrara marble workshops and its machinery guided by Marble Designer Moreno Ratti
Tuesday 18th July 2017- Carrara and Montalcino - Quarries and marble
Quarries visit and Visit to the studio of a sculptor guided by Marble Designer Moreno Ratti
Transfer to Montalcino
Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th of July 2017- Montalcino - Tableware Design
Lectures by guests and food experience with a chef
Friday 21st July 2017 - Montalcino - Presentation of final designs and announcement of winning projects
Presentation to the Jury and winner announcement
