OPEN CALL FOR ENTRIES:
MOS DESIGNER RESIDENCY COMPETITION IN MONTALCINO, TUSCANY || 2016
Matter of Stuff is pleased to announce an open competition for designer all over the world.
Matter of Stuff is a London based online gallery and an art and design community founded on a true vision: we believe in the power of craft and the act of making. The competition aims to select 6 participants in the Designer Residencies that will take place between 18 April and 14 May 2016 in Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy. Projects from any country can be submitted in 2 categories – marble and metal work. 3 participants will be selected for each material. Winners will receive the chance to participate to a one month residency in Tuscany and the chance to develop a new line of products together with an italian manufacturer. All entries are peer reviewed and judged by a panel comprised of design professionals and members of the press, who will be looking for projects that combine innovation, technology, design and creativity.
One Month Designer Residency in Tuscany
One Objective: to design better
How many ideas will never see a ray of light. How many projects will stay in that dream drawer? They remain ideas because they lack the necessary funding to break through, or because they lack those contacts and sinergies with the people who can make them real. During the Italian Renaissance the greatest art projects, paintings, sculptures and buildings were funded by visionary mecenates. Is it still possible nowadays to sustain a project just because you fall in love with its idea? People build their projects using those materials that are available to them. What happens if we give them access to usually inaccessible materials and technology?
Today more than ever, the world hunger for precious materials makes marble and metal less and less accessible. Much is the knowledge, crafstmenship and technology available on Tuscan soil. Matter of Stuff designer residency aims to combine international designers’ ideas and Italian artisans’ expertise in marble and metal. It is an experience to enhance relationships and exchanges, to create an original production of unique objects, or limited edition pieces.
One hand feeds the other and the synergy between the two hands creates objects with many stories to tell. In fact, it’s the stories behind every object that makes them special. The thinking and the making of a product communicate that objects are more than just materials and shapes.
